What is Dockmate®?

Dockmate® represents cutting-edge technology in wireless control for motorboats, combining performance and accessibility.

Thanks to a compact and ergonomic remote control, you can operate your engines, thrusters, windlass, and even your horn from anywhere on the boat. You gain freedom of movement while maintaining precise and immediate control.

Yes, Dockmate® has several unique features:

  1. Dockmate® uses DockLink™, a state-of-the-art proprietary bidirectional (2-way) communication protocol, with GFSK (FM) modulation on the 868 MHz or 433 MHz frequency band, between the remote control and the receiver, thus ensuring superior range. The rolling code changes every 150 ms, more than 6 times per second, on 6 different channels, virtually eliminating any possibility of interference.
  2. Fully proportional 3-axis joystick on TWIST and VECTOR remote controls.
  3. Proportional throttle control (the more you push the joystick, the more power is delivered).
  4. Horn function on EVERY remote control, at no extra cost.
  5. Fully waterproof remote controls that float.
  6. 3-year warranty with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee or money back (hardware only).
  7. Fully configurable software allows for fine-tuning of the remote control’s operation to your boat’s specificities and your maneuvering habits. Unlike some competing solutions that are only “plug and play” and not scalable, Dockmate offers custom adjustment for a truly personalized and optimized experience.
  8. The SINGLE & TWIN remote control models have flush buttons that allow you to discern and use the different functions without having to look at the remote control.
  9. The SINGLE & TWIST remote control models are designed for single-engine vessels (but require 2 thrusters).
  10. VECTOR remote control for Volvo Penta IPS engines and all boats equipped with a fixed joystick.
  11. Dynamic Positioning: if the boat is equipped with Volvo Penta’s “Dynamic Positioning” or “Sky Hook” function, this function can be activated or deactivated via the VECTOR remote control.
  12. Redundant “fail-safe” technology with multiple relays and code changes several times per second.
  13. Dockmate®’s modular design allows functions to be added at any time (for example, if you install another thruster).
  14. Dockmate® evolves with you. If you change boats, the system can be reconfigured and installed on a new unit, provided it has compatible electronic controls. A sustainable investment, designed to grow with you.

  15. SoftDocking is included free with every Dockmate (except Dockmate RED). SoftDocking allows you to reliably and repeatedly engage the engine(s) for a short period (i.e., 0.75s), which must be calibrated to match your boat and driving style. This is a real asset on boats equipped with (very) powerful engines and gearboxes. If idling forward and reverse is already “too much” on your boat, you will love SoftDocking.

The Dockmate® system works worldwide. Its
wireless communication operates on the 868 MHz or 433 MHz FM band.
Dockmate is CE and FCC certified.
In Europe, we deliver Dockmate® in the 868 MHz version.
In the United States, Australia, and other countries, we deliver Dockmate® in the 433 MHz version.

The Dockmate® warranty is 3 years, and we also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee (on hardware only; labor and setup fees, etc., will remain due).
If the remote controls accidentally fall overboard, they will float, and the warranty will not be voided!
In the unlikely event that your Dockmate® needs repair, it can be easily done by your country’s Dockmate® distributor.

Simply put: NO!

Dockmate® uses its proprietary DockLink™ communication protocol. DockLink™ is a state-of-the-art, infinitely superior bidirectional FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) communication with handshake and GFSK (FM) modulation on the 868 MHz or 433 MHz frequency band (depending on your region) that offers superior range.

Dockmate® operates in the 868 MHz or 433 MHz FM frequency band. Dockmate® has 72 communication channels in the 868 MHz band and 64 communication channels in the 433 MHz band. FHSS means that each Dockmate® uses a unique set of 6 channels (with a minimum spread of 5 channels) across the entire 72 or 64 channel band, then hops from one frequency to another every 160 to 180 ms (approximately 6 times per second). This virtually eliminates any possibility of interference.

The details above are subject to change, as DockLink™ is regularly improved to optimize wireless communication and to enhance (and even add) features.

Dual-band units use a single channel on 433 MHz and one channel on 868 MHz, transmitting only in one direction with AM modulation. Transmission alternates between the two unique channels, which allows for potential interference and dead spots when walking around your boat.

The operating range of the Dockmate® with the standard antenna is approximately 50 m or 165 feet. There is no need to install an expensive RF range extender/repeater for vessels over 80 feet.

NO, Dockmate®’s DockLink™ technology virtually eliminates any possible interference from other systems. (See question: Is dual band better than single band?)
Furthermore, each remote control is linked to its own receiver, meaning that only your Dockmate® remote control can operate your boat.

YES, Dockmate® offers optional proportional throttle control on the TWIST remote control (the more you press the joystick, the more throttle is provided) and a predetermined (calibrated) throttle with the SINGLE+ and TWIN+ remote controls (press a button and the throttle jumps to a predetermined RPM).

Dockmate® has been sold worldwide since 2012. Dockmate® is fully licensed, certified, and insured.

If your boat is equipped with electronic controls, then a Dockmate® system can be installed.
If your boat is equipped with mechanical or hydraulic controls, Dockmate® can still be installed with the installation of an electronic-mechanical interface system. (Not managed by Dockmate, inquire with your shipyard)

Depending on the existing systems on the vessel, the Dockmate® can connect to the engines via CAN digital bus technology, via an analog connection, or via a gearbox interface directly to the gearbox solenoids. If Dockmate® needs to connect via our Gearbox Driver, Dockmate® will only have gear shift control and no throttle control.

If your boat is equipped with mechanical or hydraulic controls, Dockmate® can still be installed with the installation of an electronic-mechanical interface system. (Not managed by Dockmate, inquire with your shipyard)

Each Dockmate® system is built to order. The cost of the Dockmate® system depends on:

  • The chosen remote control model.
  • The number of desired control functions.
  • Your boat’s equipment (make and type of engines, gear lever, thrusters, etc.).
  • The type of connection to your vessel’s system (analog or CAN bus).
  • Special options

Generally, in France, a Dockmate costs between €10,000 and €20,000 installed and configured. You can configure your Dockmate® via our website to get an accurate quote.

The Dockmate® system can control up to 7 functions!

  • Horn
  • Windlass or anchor winch – 1 or 2 anchors
  • Port engine
  • Starboard engine
  • Bow thruster
  • Stern thruster

Otherwise, unused buttons can be used for other functions. If you don’t have a second anchor, the corresponding buttons on the Dockmate® remote control can be used to control a hydraulic platform, for example.

Yes. Dockmate now offers its own dynamic positioning system: the DPS (Dockmate Positioning System).

Integrated as a complement to the Dockmate remote control, the DPS automatically maintains the boat’s position and orientation by coordinating the engines and thrusters. Ideal for waiting in a holding area, preparing a maneuver, or securing a delicate situation, without stress and with permanent control.

A typical Dockmate® system can be installed in one day or less.

Yes, this is technically possible but may be prohibited or restricted by local legislation/regulations. Please check local regulations to ensure you do not violate the law.

In the United States, for example, according to FCC regulations, using the Dockmate® on the dock is not recommended.

When someone is on board, the Dockmate® can be used while standing on the dock to bring the boat back to the dock while securing your lines.

Yes, the Dockmate® system has redundant “fail-safe” technologies built into both hardware and software. Some of these safety features are listed below:

  • For the engines to engage, 4 contactor relays must activate.
  • If the Dockmate® remote control is dropped, the Dockmate® control outputs will immediately return to their neutral position.
  • The boat’s main engine controls can be used immediately if the Dockmate® remote control falls overboard or is lost.
  • The receiver and remote controls are equipped with alarm systems.

Yes. The Dockmate® system can be easily removed and installed on your new boat.
The modular design allows the system to be modified to fit any vessel equipped with electronic controls.
Some modules may need to be added or replaced to accommodate your new boat’s controls, but you will never have to replace the entire Dockmate® system.

There is a battery indicator/status LED that will light up red or orange if your batteries are low. If the batteries are too low, the Dockmate® remote control will not transmit, so the boat will not engage gear, and all functions will default to OFF or NEUTRAL. The boat’s main engine controls can be used if the Dockmate® remote control batteries are depleted.

The price of a Dockmate® depends on several factors. Some of these factors have been integrated into the configurator:

  • Which remote control do you want?
  • How many engines does your boat have?
  • Do you want to control a windlass?
  • Do you have thrusters?

However, to provide an accurate price, we need much more detailed information. This would make the configurator too complex for its purpose, which is to give you an idea of the price. If you are interested and would like a personalized quote, please contact us.

No. For several reasons, we have decided not to include rudder control in Dockmate®.
The most important reason is that you would have no feedback on the Dockmate® remote controls regarding your rudder’s orientation.
